On December 7th, Kelly and Matt plan to have a “doggone good time” at the Eighth Annual Wilmington Fur Ball, a black tie, red carpet fundraising gala. Proceeds from the event will support the rescue and adoption efforts of two non-profit organizations: Pender Humane Society and Adopt an Angel of New Hanover County.
Over the past several years, supporters and donors of the Fur Ball have distributed $107,500 in funds which have been used to save the lives of many homeless animals in the tri-county area; to build a new animal shelter at the Pender Humane Society; and to create a new low-cost spay and neuter clinic in Winnabow, NC.
The Pender Human Society is a volunteer-based, non-profit, no-kill animal rescue organization that is funded by donations, memberships and fees. They are dedicated to improving the lives of homeless and unwanted animals by providing shelter and medical care while finding loving and responsible permanent homes. They also work to prevent cruelty and overpopulation of dogs and cats.
Adopt an Angel of New Hanover County is a charitable outreach organization dedicated to assisting municipal shelters by providing satellite adoption fairs to increase adoption, especially to those animals whose time has “run out” in a traditional shelter.
As animal lovers and as attorneys concerned with the welfare of pets when their owners can no longer care for them, we believe in supporting these worthwhile organizations, and we hope we’ll see you there in support of our four-legged friends!
If you have pets you would like to provide for in the event you become unable to care for them, be sure to mention them in your discussions with your estate planning attorneys. We can help! To learn more about pet trusts, read this blog post.
