Ben Franklin’s quote “but in the world nothing can be said to be certain except death and taxes” seems to reverberate around the United States annually around April 15th. Hopefully, we have all made it through yet another year relatively unscathed. However, surviving April 15th is not the only goal to have in mind around this time. Now is also a time to do a thorough after-tax examination of your finances and hopefully even identify ways to increase your after-tax income and overall wealth. This is an important step for every person, regardless of age. However, it is especially important for those individuals nearing retirement or already enjoying retirement who may be trying to address some of the stresses of a more fixed income usually associated with retirement.
