Help Local Veterans Get to D.C. for the ‘Healing Wall Tour’

For months, a local chapter of Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 885, has been fundraising to send Wilmington area veterans to the nation’s capital for a “Healing Wall Tour.”

The tour is scheduled for October 4-5, and although members of Chapter 885 have already raised about $8,000 to fund the bus trip for up to 55 veterans, they are still about $1,000 away from reaching their goal.

The purpose of the trip is to help veterans and their families connect with one another and with those lost in Vietnam.  They will travel to the Vietnam Memorial on the National Mall to participate in a prayer and remembrance ceremony where they will honor the fallen and celebrate the service of those who survived.

Experiencing the Vietnam Memorial as a group can go a long way to reducing the pain and suffering associated with their Vietnam service experience.  Unlike other groups of veterans, those who served in Vietnam were not welcomed home with parades to thank them for their service; they must organize their own tour.  Given the success of the Honor Flight in Wilmington and the surrounding area, organizers of this event hope to experience the same kind of support, and reach their fundraising goal by the end of the month.

Please help show our local Vietnam veterans that we appreciate their sacrifice.  To make a donation or request more information, call 910-762-4288 or write:
